Department of Chemical Engineering

Chemical Engineering is one of the oldest branches of Engineering. Chemical Engineering touches our daily lives directly or indirectly in many ways. This discipline plays active role in many sectors such as Pharmaceutical production, Food processing, Water purification, Sanitation, Textiles, Petrochemicals, Everyday materials (Rubber, Plastic, Polymers, Cleansing agents etc).

Chemical Engineering is a multi-disciplinary branch of engineering that combines principle of natural and experimental sciences (such as chemistry and physics), along with life sciences (such as biology, microbiology and biochemistry) plus mathematics and economics to design, develop, produce, transform, transport, operate and manage the industrial processes. The work of chemical engineers can range from the utilisation of nano-technology and nano-materials in the laboratory to large-scale industrial processes that turn raw materials living cells, microorganisms, and energy into useful forms and products into valuable products.

Chemical engineers then translate this chemical information to formulate designs. There are two broad subgroups that better defines "What is chemical engineering?" The first group deals with designing, manufacturing and operating plants and machinery for carrying out large-scale industrial chemical, biological or related processes and the second one is developing new or adapted substances for a wide range of products.

Chemical engineers may also be specialized in one or the other subgroup, but work from both side will be required in order to create a final product. They will need to consider economic viability, management of resources, health and safety, sustainability and environmental impact.

SGDTP provides us a lot of resources; I gained a lot of theoretical and practical knowledge and a very good infrastructure facility with very well equipped labs which gives us practical exposure. “SGDTP has been my second home, 3 years of College has seemed like 3 months, days have been happier, exciting and full of knowledge. Teachers have been great, always focusing attention on our all-round development. There has always been a very friendly and lively atmosphere and a driving spirit to learn. Strict discipline (in terms of attendance, classrooms and practical) in 3 years of my college days at SGDTP helped me to grow personally and further instrumental in my professional carrier as well. All theory session was supported by real time example from Industry which helped in understanding the topic easily. Abundant facilities in labs which would give hands-on experience on machines.
